A day trip from the city
You do not have to drive to Hocking Hills to get on the water. Coshocton sits where three rivers meet — the Tuscarawas, the Walhonding, and the Muskingum — about 80 minutes from downtown Columbus. Rent a canoe, kayak, or tube at Roscoe Village Canoe Livery, ride our shuttle upriver, float 4.5 miles back to The Boathouse Tavern, and finish with a drink on the patio. Walk-ins accepted.
Drive Times to the Livery
- Columbus — about 1 hr 20 min Roughly 75 miles northeast via I-70 to SR-16, or US-62 through Newark.
- Newark / Granville — about 40 min Straight up SR-16 and US-36.
- Zanesville — about 40 min North on SR-60 along the Muskingum River.
- Mount Vernon — about 45 min East on US-36 through Warsaw.
- Canton / Akron — about 1 hr to 1 hr 25 min South on I-77 to US-36.
- Cleveland — about 1 hr 45 min I-77 south, then west on US-36.
- New Philadelphia — about 45 min West on US-36 along the Tuscarawas.
- Pittsburgh — about 2 hr 30 min I-70 west to I-77 south.

What a Day on the River Looks Like
Arrive any time between the 9AM first shuttle and the 3PM last shuttle, Thursday through Sunday. Sign your waiver, pick your boat, and we shuttle you upriver. The Eagle Trip runs 4.5 miles from the Tuscarawas River down to the Muskingum — flat, easy water that suits first-timers, families, and groups, and takes most people two to three hours.
What to Bring
Shoes you can get wet (required), sunscreen, water, and a personal handheld cooler if you want one — no glass and no Styrofoam. Leave valuables locked in the car. Minimum age is 3.
Groups, families, and company outings are welcome — call ahead for large parties.
Make a Weekend of It
Historic Roscoe Village, the Coshocton canal boat, and Lake Park are all minutes away, and The Boathouse Tavern's Tiki Bar and patio are open during livery hours, 9AM–3PM.
